John P. Emerson, age 93, of Cordova, Tenn., passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025. He was born on August 22, 1931, in Lodi, Miss.– a place that always held a special place in his heart, but lived most of his line in Memphis, Tenn.
John was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for many years at his own company.
A faithful Christian man, John served as a deacon and past member of Parkway Village Baptist Church and later became a member of Faith Baptist Church.
John was known for his lovable and happy spirit. He loved to joke around, and from time to time, would break out in a song and do a little dance. He enjoyed sharing stories from his upbringing in Lodi, Miss., and even more so, he loved being surrounded by his family. John was a true family man—funny, caring, and full of life. His warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Joan Emerson; his children, Paul (Milena) Emerson of Cordova, Tenn.; Richard (Kathy) Emerson of Lakeland, Tenn.; and Lisa Emerson of Cordova; Tenn.; four grandchildren, John Tibbits, Kristen Hiller, Katelyn Canup, and Will Emerson-and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, David Michael Emerson.
He will be truly missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint." – Isaiah 40:31
