The J.Z. George varsity archery team took first place in the AIMS North State qualifier last week in Oxford.
The high school team finished with 2,959 points to finish first in the AIMS Class 2A division, which was held last Wednesday. The top four male and female scores plus the next four highest scores count in the team total.
For the girls, Gallaxie Little shot a 267 to lead the way. Christin Bankston was next with a 262, and Emma Coy Boyles shot a 239. Madison Chenault was fourth with a 230.
For the boys, Wyatt Goss and Brayden Counts tied for first for the Jags with 255 points each. Dustin Dickerson was next with a 254, and Kelton Sanders was fourth with a 250.
Other girls who competed were Abbygail Clardy (226), Emma Holdiness (195), Shy’era Hemphill (168), Jakilya Ghoston (161) and Makayla Cobbins (131).
Other boys who competed were Jaxson Mulvhill (238), Zachary Givens (234), Mason James (221) and Eli Miley (221).
The J.Z. George middle school team finished with 2,700 points to place third in the 2A division.
For the girls, Karen Favela was first with 253 points, and Avery Holdiness was second with 242 points. Ava Hollis came in third with 228 points, and Bella Jones was fourth with 225 points. Other girls and their scores were Olivia Smith (208), Christyn Earnest (200) and Alahna Daves (150).
For the boys, Kelden Blackmon had the high score with a 258. Tyler Duren was second with a 242, and Jaelyn Foreman was third with a 234. Jaylon Normal came in fourth with a 222. Other boys and their scores were Charles Ansley (195), D’Andre Jones (193), Wesley Wilbanks (171) and Ashfurd Trowbridge (163).
The state archery shoot is slated for April 19 in Jackson.
J.Z. George softball
The Lady Jaguars dropped a 25-0 decision to East Webster Tuesday in North Carrollton.
Ryan Hancock, Saralyn Roberts and Tamya Robinson had a single each for J.Z. George (2-12), which visited Bruce Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Lady Jags play host to Riverside Thursday, go to Yazoo County Friday, entertain Holmes County Central on April 17 and visit Leake Central April 18 to close out the regular season.

The Jaguars hit the field for the first time since March 28 Tuesday as they traveled to Itta Bena to face the Tigers of Leflore County.
The two Region 2-2A foes will square off again Thursday in North Carrollton at 4:30 p.m. J.Z. George (1-6, 0-5 in region) will play a doubleheader against Charleston Monday at its home field to end the regular season.
