WINONA – It looks as if someone kicked the ant hill with the amount of activity going on at Winona Christian these days.
Headmaster Jimmy Pittman said the various summer improvement projects happening around the school’s campus are winding up for the upcoming open house on August 8.
“We are proud of what we have been able to do this summer,” said Pittman. “[Facility improvements] are an ongoing process. We are always looking to improve.”
Pittman said this summer, crews have dropped the ceilings in every classroom and installed LED lights.
“Every bulb on campus has a new LED light,” Pittman said. “Those LEDs will save us $1,500 per month [in energy costs.]”
Pittman said new floor tiles have been installed in 10 classrooms, the outside of the elementary building has been painted, and every classroom has received a fresh coat of paint.
A new black fence has been installed around the football field, and work continues on renovation of the bleachers. At the field house, which was constructed last summer, the second floor was completed this summer with a film room, coaches’ offices and storage space.
“We have totally renovated the girls’ locker room,” Pittman said.
Lady Stars playing basketball and softball will enjoy the renovated locker room, and their own weight room as well.
“We have done a lot in two months,” Pittman said.
As for academic improvements, Pittman said the school will welcome eight new teachers this year – six of those seasoned veterans.
“We really have some quality teachers here at the school,” Pittman said. “And the teachers we just hired were the top teachers where they were.”
Pittman said the school purchased a smart board for the school library, and a set of 30 Chrome Books acquired this summer will allow the school to test 85 students at the same time.
Teachers will return to Winona Christian School on August 8, with students arriving on August 10.
