Last Wednesday night storms brought downed trees and power lines in Montgomery and Carroll Counties.
Heavy rains and wind caused a tree to fall on an apartment unit on North Union Street, and two vehicles ran into downed trees that were across the road in Carroll County.
Montgomery County EMA and Civil Defense Director Allan Pratt said he received a report the night of the storm that a tree had fallen on a home. He said the tree fell on an apartment unit located on North Union Street.
“It was an A and B apartment, and it did damage to one of the apartments, but it didn’t really get the one that joined it,” Pratt said.
He said the damage was caused by heavy rain and strong winds that occurred during the storm.
“We had some severe winds. We had a few roads that were closed, things like that, but no significant damage done,” Pratt said.
Emergency Management and Civil Defense Director Ken Strachan said the county had limbs and trees down throughout the county.
“The Supervisors and their crews worked to open the roads that had trees on them. The Carrollton/North Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department also responded to help move trees and debris from the roadways. The roads have all been opened, the lights went out before midnight but Entergy and Delta Electric had the power quickly restored,” Strachan said.
He said there were also two separate accidents that occurred where vehicles ran into trees that had fallen across the roads. He said the E911 Center received two separate calls almost four hours apart and the Carroll County Sheriff Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded.
“There were two separate accidents were vehicles hit trees that had fell across roadways. According to Carroll County Emergency Operations Center, the first accident happened around midnight at the intersection of MS Highway 17 South and County Road 23 and the second accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on County Road 30.”
Strachan said no injuries were reported.
