WINONA – A local mother and son duo will battle against three other teams for the chance to win $100,000 and the title of champions of Candy Crush, the new live action game show based on the mobile game airing on CBS.
The episode featuring Lori Bowering and her son, Bryce Bowering, as one of four two-member teams will air this Sunday, August 6 beginning at 7 p.m.
According to the CBS website, “Candy Crush” is a game where teams “use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards featuring next generation technology to conquer Candy Crush and be crowned champions.”
Bowering said she was noticed by CBS producers during her audition for “Big Brother,” a popular CBS reality show that is in its 19th season.
“Four years ago, I tried out for “Big Brother,” because I am obsessed with it,” Bowering said. “They flew me out to [Los Angeles] to audition. To just get to that point was a big deal. I got cut short by just a few people.”
Bowering said producers told her she needed to keep trying out, and they would keep her in mind if another opportunity arose.
In November 2016, she received a call about appearing on a new CBS game show that would premier this summer.
“They told me to pick a partner who was 18 years old or older,” Bowering said. [My son] Bryce was just a few days short of 18 at the time, but when we did our first Skype interview he was 18.”
Bowering said in addition to the Skype interview, there were several phone interviews.
“It is a lot to get on one of these shows,” Bowering said. “It took five months of interviews and paperwork.”
The first of March, Bowering got the news that she and Bryce were accepted to compete, and at the end of March, they flew to Los Angeles for four days to film the show.
On filming day, Bowering said they arrived at the studio at 8 a.m. and finally completed their day at 9 p.m. that evening.
“It was a lot of fun,” Bowering said.
Bowering can’t disclose how they fared in the competition. The community will have to tune in to the program Sunday night.
A native of Brandon, Bowering and her family moved to Winona six years ago to be close to her parents, Betty and Lamar Ellis of Kilmichael. Today, Bowering, her husband, Todd Bowering, and their four children, Bryce, Shelby, Stone, and Shield reside in Winona.
