Barry Gregg has been hired as the new Chief of Police for the Town of Kilmichael effective January 1, 2021. Gregg will replace David Eldridge, who will retire on December 31.
Mayor Bobby Howell said that during a recessed meeting of the board, the board met to consider filling the position. Howell said he recommended Gregg be hired. Howell said after a brief discussion between Gregg and the board, Alderman Earnest Curtis made the motion to hire Gregg, which was seconded by Alderman Bryan Lott.
Gregg was voted in unanimously.
“I am excited that the town was able to hire someone with 27 years of experience in law enforcement. His varied experience will be very beneficial as he directs our police department,” Howell said.
Gregg worked for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department as a sheriff’s deputy.
According to his 2019 biography as a candidate for sheriff of Montgomery County, Gregg is a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy (1992), the Tennessee Training Academy (1996), Northwest University School of Police Staff and Command (2001), and The Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (2009). In that biography he said he has served as a patrolman and assistant chief of the Winona Police Department and a deputy sheriff in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Gregg also worked for the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District as a resource officer.
Gregg is married to Megan Wilkes-Gregg, a teacher at Winona Secondary School. The couple has four children, Marlee Frances and Gunner Wilkes, 11, Phares Gregg, 19, and a daughter, Livvie Scott Gregg.
“We appreciate the many years of service that Chief Eldridge provided to Kilmichael and wish him well in his retirement. We look forward to our citizens getting to know Barry as he begins his duties,” Howell said.
