In less than three weeks, on February 20, God’s House of Hope will hold its ribbon cutting and will open its doors to the public.
Director Rebecca Johnson said there will be a speaker, refreshments and a tour of the campus. Along with womens’ and men’s dormitories and a worship center, there will also be a thrift store located in the gymnasium.
God’s House of Hope provides an in-house six to eight-month program that helps people with drug, alcohol, and emotional problems to lean on their faith to learn how to live a normal life. She said residents will undergo what will feel like two years of Bible college.
There will be counseling sessions, ways to help residents get their GED or complete their high school diploma. Residents will attend a church service every Sunday and they plan to open up their cafeteria to the public and sell plate lunches on Sundays.
“Mayor Bobby Howell said he’s going to talk to Sue [Stidham] with economic development to invite city and county officials from the surrounding areas as well. It’s going to be a lot of people here. A lot of news people here. The television stations will be here, it’s gonna be a big day,” she said.
On Saturday, Feb. 29, God’s House of Hope will have a benefit program. There will be a silent auction, food, entertainment and more. Johnson said more details about the benefit will be released closer to time.
She said if anyone wants to donate to God’s House of Hope, they’re in need of financial donations, toiletries, cleaning supplies, food and whatever else is laid upon a person’s heart to give. For those who want to make donations, they can at www.ghohkilmichael.com.
