Two Carroll County deputies have been certified to train other law enforcement officers.
According to Deputy Roshaun Daniels with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, he and fellow deputy Dustin Haddon completed the Defensive Tactical Survivor Training Course in Yazoo County, taught by Jeff Curtis, owner of Total Control Training Institute in Benton.
Daniels and Haddon were instructed to train law enforcement in field interview stance, combat ready stance, avoidance drills, joint locks, defensive counter strikes, vascular pin restraints, impact weapon, collapsible baton, handcuffing, and weapon retention and disarmament during the five-day class.
“This will provide safety for the officers and in their handling situations with the general public,” Daniels said.
Daniels said the course focuses on survivor skills to give law enforcement the proper skills to protect themselves and others.
“That skill is essential,” Daniels said.
Recently, Daniels and Haddon taught the Defensive Tactical Course at the Grenada Law Enforcement Training Academy.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department has placed an emphasis on providing advanced training opportunities to its officers, with planned trainings department-wide at least twice a year. Daniels said with he and Haddon certified as training officers, they can provide training opportunities locally for Carroll County and surrounding law enforcement agencies.
