As a Winona native, I understand the challenges our community faces, but I also know the untapped potential that lies within our city. From the "Crossroads of Mississippi" to the hearts and minds of our citizens, Winona has always been a place full of promise. However, over time, we’ve seen a decline in job opportunities, local shopping, and the overall quality of life. But we don't have to accept this decline — we can choose to make a change, to shift our focus towards a thriving, prosperous future for everyone in Winona.
My name is Sharron Collins, and I am running for Alderwoman of Ward 4 to ensure that Winona becomes a place where every citizen can live, work, and thrive. With a background in education, workforce development, and leadership, I am ready to bring my experience and passion to the City Government, helping guide Winona towards new opportunities, growth, and success.
Why Me?
• Educational Leadership & Workforce Development: I hold degrees from Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi, and a Doctorate in Workforce Education and Development from the University of Georgia. My education and career have always been rooted in one goal: to prepare and empower the next generation to succeed.
• Experience in Action: I’ve been an educator for many years where I have taught and served in various positions with school districts. I continue to teach, mentor, and prepare young people for the workforce. My life’s work as an educator has taken me to Atlanta, Washington, DC, and as far away as Ghana, West Africa mentoring and teaching others, while gaining valuable insight into diverse communities and effective leadership.
• Passionate About Winona's Future: I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is to support local businesses and create opportunities for growth. That’s why I’m committed to working with local organizations to secure grants that will fund youth programs, jobs, housing, and other initiatives. Winona has the perfect location to attract new businesses, entrepreneurs, and industries — and I believe we can make that happen.

I want to see Winona flourish once again. I want us to be a city where new businesses open every year, where youth programs provide meaningful opportunities, and where every person can feel safe and comfortable in their own community. Together, we can build a Winona where people feel proud to call home — a Winona where we support and encourage entrepreneurs to turn their dreams into reality. Whether it's a restaurant, medical practice, computer repair business, or even a new ice cream shop — I want to see our city's potential realized!
