On Tuesday, May 7, a stabbing occurred in Vaiden around the area of Court Street and Cherry Street. The incident resulted from a domestic dispute in which Kelly Johnston stabbed Daniel Coby Meeks with a stick handle from a broken garden rake.
Johnston was arrested by the Vaiden Police Department on the charge of aggravated assault and was transported to the Grenada County Jail. Her initial appearance was set for May 9 in Grenada with a bond set in the amount of $5,000.
Vaiden Police Chief Shelia Peeples commented on the incident, stating, “If you do a crime in Vaiden you go to jail.”
Meeks was transported to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital by MedStat Emergency Medical Services the day of the incident where he received initial medical treatment but was airlifted to Memphis later that evening. Chief Peeples reported on Monday, May 13, Meeks had been released from the Memphis hospital.
