I couldn’t help but be disappointed—- meeting buildings and bathrooms were run down and looked neglected.
Gary and I went on a nostalgic tour of a state park in North Mississippi. Long, cool, and calm, the lake was still there and seemed bigger than my memory of it. The swinging bridge was still functional, and we enjoyed walking across the wooden boards with Gary trying to make it “swing.”
My memories of the park were also memories of working with my mama. She was an Avon District Manager and organized sales meetings in different counties for her Avon Ladies. She provided training, product information, and glimpses of new products. She decided she would rent one of the meeting rooms at the state park for her event, and a cabin for us to stay in the night before.
Sounded good.
Our cabin was somewhat isolated, but comfortable. It was built up off the ground on stone supports. We were both sound asleep when we were rudely awakened. Something was making all kinds of noise under the cabin.
Then we heard dogs barking and baying as they chased the raccoon right under our floor. Such a racket!
Next the low, rumbling voices of the hunters hollering to their dogs in the excitement of the chase under our cabin. The noise surprised us!
The Bible talks about people being surprised when Jesus returns. Matthew 24:36 tells us that: But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”
Matthew 24:27 explains how surprising and unexpected Jesus’ return will be: “For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Matthew 24:44 tells us: “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
How do we prepare for His return?
Pray: The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing staying in close communication and connection to Christ. Study and meditate on the Bible.
Confess and repent of sins. I John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Participating in a Bible based church. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Remain faithful. Faithful to your belief and saving relationship with Christ. Faithful in doing what God leads to do to further His kingdom and grow your faith. Faithful to other Christians in church by attending, learning from His Word, and encouraging each other.
Christ’s return will a devastating rude awakening for those who reject Him and haven’t put their trust in Jesus for salvation.
Be ready and be alert while waiting for His return.
