The Town of Carrollton is gearing up for some “Good ole school days” as they prepare for the annual Carrollton Pilgrimage and Pioneer Day.
Carrollton Mayor Pam Lee said the two-day event will take place on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
“It will recognize all of the schools of Carroll County,” Lee said, adding a lot of those schools no longer exists.
“A lot of them have told us they’re going to have a class reunion of some sort,” she said. Lee said there have been 20 classes that have confirmed their attendance. She said there will be a table set up in the hallway of the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton where classes can sign up.
She said the goal is to get as many classes to participate as they can.
“There will be music, arts and crafts, and this year there will be a street party to close out on Saturday on the southside of the courthouse. Food vendors will stick around so people don’t have to worry about that. They can stay around listen to music and enjoy the evening,” she said.
Lee said Pilgrimage/Pioneer Day volunteers are still seeking more volunteers to help with the event.
“If you know anyone who would like to sit at the table and register people, we’ll be glad to have you. You have sit for an hour or more and catch up with people you haven’t seen,” she said.
Lee encouraged the Carroll County Board of Supervisors during their meeting on Tuesday at the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton to tell their fellow classmates and schoolmates about the event. She also presented a report compiled by Mississippi State University that detailed how well the festival has done.
“We bring in a lot of people in our little small town, and we bring in a lot of money,” Lee said. She said the committee will continue to do the work.
