Residents of Coila now have their own store to pick up essentials.
Dollar General, located at 35218 Highway 430, opened last week for residents to enjoy the convenience of not having to drive to Carrollton, North Carrollton, Vaiden or Winona to grab a gallon of milk, household items, and even frozen foods.
The store had its grand opening last Saturday, and the first 50 adult shoppers in the store received a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 received a Dollar General tote bag filled with samples and goodies, according to a release from the company.
“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” said Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development. “We hope our area customers will enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”
Resident Lori M. Bell said having the new Dollar General in Coila is great for the economic growth of the county and makes it convenient for shoppers to have a third Dollar General location in the county.
“It is so convenient to be able to get items you need without having to go to Greenwood,” Bell said. “It also gives employment opportunities not otherwise available in Carroll County.”
The question that may be lingering on some people’s minds is who gets the sales tax? Because Coila is not an incorporated municipality, the state will benefit from the sales tax, however, the new store pays property tax in Carroll County.
“Sales tax in the county goes to the state, but the towns gets a certain percent of the seven percent sales tax,” Supervisor Jim Neill stated.
