The Carroll Academy Rebels pulled off another thrilling comeback win last week as they used a pair of grand slams to take a 13-10 extra inning win over Humphreys Academy in the last week of the season.
Carroll also lost to Oak Hill 15-4 and Kirk 9-4.
The Rebels finish the season with a 6-11 record on the season.
Carroll 13, Humphreys 10
The Rebels overcame a five-run and six-run deficit to take a three-run win over Humphreys last week.
Humphreys scored five runs in the first inning before Carroll bounced back with three in the second. In the second, Dane Greenlee walked and Crawford Holly reached on a fielder’s choice. After Colby Holly walked, Bubba Porter drove in all three with a double.
Humphreys extended its lead in the third with four runs to go up 9-3.
But the Rebels answered against with six runs in the sixth inning. In the inning, Noah Collier singled and Greenlee doubled to put runners at second and third. Jacob Cutts doubled to drive Collier and Greenlee in. Crawford Holly followed with a double and Colby Holly walked to load the bases for Gavin Wiltshire, who blasted a grand slam to tie the score at 9-9.
The score stayed tied at 9-9 until the eighth when Porter and Wiltshire singled and Andrew Montgomery was intentionally walked to load the bases. Collier then followed with a grand slam of his own to give the Rebels the win.
Carroll had 13 hits in the contest.
Bubba Porter started on the mound for Carroll and gave up nine runs on seven hits and seven walks in three innings. Jacob Cutts (2-3) pitched the final five innings and gave up one run as he scattered five hits and three walks while striking out three to cut the score to 5-3.
In the junior varsity game, Carroll came away with a 5-2 win as Hunter Grantham pitched 2 2/3 innings to pick up the win.
Oak Hill 15, Carroll 4
In a makeup game, Oak Hill scored 10 runs in the first inning and took a five-inning, run-rule victory last week.
Oak HIll led 13-0 after the top of the third before Carroll scored two in the second and third innings. Oak Hill finished off the game with two runs in the fifth inning.
In the third, Carroll got two as Bubba Porter singled and scored on a double by Jacob Cutts. Andrew Montgomery then singled to score Cutts. In the fourth, Gavin Wiltshire walked and scored on a double by Dane Greenlee, who then scored on a single by Colby Holly.
Andrew Montgomery got the start and pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up 15 runs on 10 hits, five walks and three hit batters while striking out three. Lofton Holly got the last out.
In the junior varsity game, Oak Hill won 12-9. Lofton Holly had a double and three RBIs while Hunter Grantham had two singles. Logan Hodges also had triple.
Kirk 9, Carroll 4
Kirk used a five-run sixth inning to edge out Carroll in the regular-season finale for the Rebels.
Kirk led 1-0 at the end of the first before Carroll scored two in the top of the second. In the frame, Noah Collier was hit by a pitch and stole second and third. Dane Greenlee scored and then stole second. They came home on a single by Josh Galey to make the score 2-1.
Kirk then scored one in the second to tie the score at 2-2 and took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the third. After a scoreless fourth, Carroll scored one in the fifth as Lofton Holly singled and later scored on a single by Noah Collier to make the score 4-3. The Rebels tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth as Josh Galey walked and went to second on a throwing error and scored on an RBI single by Holly.
Kirk scored five in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin and then retired Carroll three up and three down for the first time this season.
Jacob Cutts pitched 5 1/3 inning and gave up nine runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out two. Holly pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up two hits.
