Make plans this Saturday to attend the 37th annual Lighting of the Square in Downtown Kilmichael.
The festivities begin with the Christmas parade at 5 p.m. Dec. 2.
Organizers said Hot Shotz Dance Company will perform after the parade and then they will have the official lighting of the square. There will be hot dogs, chili, and chili dogs for sale during the event, and hot chocolate, if the weather permits.
Kilmichael mayor Bobby Howell said the Square volunteers have been working hard to be ready for this year’s event.
Carrie Welch is one of the handful of volunteers who put together the decorations for the Square. She loves that Christmas on the Square has been a tradition in the town her entire life.
“It kinda turns into a family and close-friends thing,” Welch said. “We get to spend a lot of time together and have lots of laughs! I couldn’t do it without my friends and family!”
Laurie Rawls and Kara Garrett have joined Welch on the Square this year getting ready for the Christmas season.
“And we could not do it without the financial help from the community,” Welch said. “They are all so generous in giving to this special occasion!”
One new addition this year is a small light show set to music. Welch said they hope to grow the light show in years to come.
