CARROLLTON – The Carroll County Board of Supervisors discussed several topics during a short regular monthly meeting on July 5.
Brandon Smith, warden of the Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility, discussed how the lighting at the Vaiden facility will be changed.
“He brought us up to speed on the retrofitting of the lights at the jail,” said Beat Four Supervisor Claude Fluker. “What they’re trying to do is save some money at the jail. They’re trying to switch from conventional lighting to LED.”
Officials expect the new lighting to yield thousands of dollars in savings.
In other county business:
• Phil Harris with Southern Security discussed offering county employees a credit union. Board members told Harris to attend a January meeting, during open enrollment for insurance providers.
• The board approved a $178,911.50 payment request to contractor Townes Construction Company Inc. for work on Emergency Watershed Protection. The federal government studied sites around the county in all five beats prior to the approval, according to Fluker.
• Board members agreed to pay claims.
• Board members will have their next monthly on Monday, July 31, at the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton.
