DUCK HILL – The quick response from Duck Hill first responders prevented a tragedy Monday night.
According to Duck Hill Fire Chief Michael D. Woods, Monday at 10:07 p.m., a fire alarm from a residence at 205 Parker Street was received by the Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center. Duck Hill Chief of Police Grady Ables and fire fighters from Duck Hill Volunteer Fire Department arrived minutes later to find the home filled with smoke.
“When we got there, the homeowner left something on the stove,” Woods said. “The house was full of smoke. There wasn’t an actual fire.”
Woods said the elderly homeowner was pulled from the home “alert but disoriented,” and Woods said he did not know if the disorientation was due to an injury during the event or another medical reason. However, the man was transported to UMMC Grenada by MedStat.
Woods was unaware of the man’s condition as of press time, but he said the man was alert and talking with paramedics before being transported to Grenada.
Woods said his department used vent fans at the scene to remove smoke from inside of the house. There was no damage to the residence in the incident.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Allan Pratt praised Duck Hill first responders for such a speedy response.
“The quick response from the Duck Hill Police Department and the Duck Hill Fire Department -- and the Lord above -- are the reasons for the good outcome in this situation,” Pratt said. “They do a good job.”
