It was a rough three days for the Carroll Academy basketball teams last week at the Kirk Academy Invitational.
The Lady Rebels brought home the only win of the week as they beat Indianola 41-38 while they lost 43-34 to Washington and 58-21 to Kirk.
The Rebels lost all three games they played, falling 72-49 to Washington, 61-43 to Indianola and 41-39 to Central Holmes.
Carroll will return to action with a full slate of division contests. Carroll will travel to Winona on Friday before traveling to Oak Hill on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Carroll will then host Kirk on Friday, Jan. 12. The next week, Carroll will travel to Central Holmes on Tuesday, Jan. 16 before hosting Marshall on Friday, Jan. 19.
Carroll won it’s only game of the Kirk Academy Christmas Tournament with a three-point win over Indianola.
Carroll led 12-11 at the end of the first and went into the half tied at 22. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Colonels 10-8 in the third and 9-8 in the fourth for the final margin.
Gracie Turner led Carroll with 16 points and nine rebounds while Carolina Mumme added 13 rebounds. Sandy Rhea Tackett also had seven rebounds for the Lady Rebels.
Washington outscored Carroll in every period as the Lady Generals took a 43-23 win.
Washington led 10-4 at the end of the first and 24-12 at the half. Washington continued to pull away as they outscored Carroll 14-10 in the third and 5-1 in the fourth.
Tackett led Carroll with eight points while Turner had six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Belle Sanders also chipped in six points.
Kirk, the defending Class AAA state champions used a dominating first half to take a 37-point win over the Lady Rebels.
Kirk led 23-6 at the end of the first and outscored Carroll 22-6 in the second to lead 45-12 at the half. With a running clock the second half, Kirk outscored Carroll 13-9 for the final margin.
Mumme led Carroll with 11 points.
Rebels
The Washington Generals broke open a close game in the second half and pulled away for a 72-49 win over the CA boys.
Carroll led 16-14 at the end of the first period but trailed 30-27 at the half. Washington started to pull away in the third period as they outscored the Rebels 23-16 to take a 53-43 lead. Washington then outscored Carroll 19-6 in the fourth for the final margin.
Reese Fulton had another double-double, pumping in 26 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Logan Taylor had nine points while Jacob Cutts added five points.
The Colonels of Indianola led from the beginning and cruised to a 61-43 win over the Rebels.
Indianola led 19-9 at the end of the first and doubled up Carroll 34-17 at the half. Carroll cut the lead to 47-35 by the end of the third but was outscored 14-8 in the fourth for the final margin.
Fulton led Carroll with 18 points and eight rebounds while Michael O’Brien added 14 points.
Central Holmes led for the entire game but Carroll made it interesting at the end before dropping a two-point decision, 41-39 Central Holmes led 12-7 at the end of the first and 25-15 at the half. Carroll shaved two points off the lead in the third and trailed 30-22 going into the fourth. The Rebels used a 17-11 advantage in the fourth to make it close.
Fulton led Carroll with a double-double, scoring 29 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Austin Smith also had six points.
