The 2018 All-Crossroads Baseball Team is made up of players with a variety of talents — some offensive, some defensive, some pitching, and some possessing a combination of tools.
The fourteen players were chosen from athletes nominated by their coaches at Winona High School, Winona Christian School, J.Z. George and Carroll Academy.
Headlining the team is Meridian Community College signee Austin Huggins, who stole the show both on the mound and at the plate for the Stars of Winona Christian School.
In all, the team was made up of five players from Carroll Academy, and three each from Winona Christian School, Winona High School, and J.Z. George.
Members of the team, listed in alphabetical order, are as follows:
• ROBBY CLUNAN, Catcher, J.Z. George, Jr.: Clunan reached base at a .582 clip for the Jaguars, while posting an impressive .361 batting average and stealing 18 bases.
• CADE ELDRIDGE, Pitcher, Winona High School, So.: Eldridge struck out 48 opponents in 38 innings while holding foes to a .227 batting average.
• DANE GREENLEE, Designated Hitter, Carroll Academy, Jr.: The Junior recorded a .381 batting average, while slug gin .571 thanks to five doubles and a homer. He also drove in 13 runs.
• LATHAM HILL, Third Base, Winona Christian, So.: The All-Conference performer drove in 18 runs thanks to a .420 batting average.
• COLBY HOLLY, Second Base, Carroll Academy, Sr.: The senior sec on baseball recorded 14 stolen bases, while putting together a .467 on base percent with a .373 batting average He runs the bases well and very good at running down pop flies.
• CRAWFORD HOLLY, Short Stop, Carroll Academy, Jr. It was a strong arm and a good glove when it comes to fielding groaners that landed Crawford Holly on the team.
• AUSTIN HUGGINS, Pitcher, Winona Christian, Sr.: The strong-armed Huggins was 6-1 on the mound for the stars thanks to a minuscule 0.56 ERA. He also had 45 strike touts compared to only five walks. Offensively he hit .431 with 12 RBIs. He was an MAIS All-Stare while making the MAIS 2A All-State team and being named conference MVP.
• JOSH JOHNSON, Outfield, J.Z. George, Sr.: The senior outfielder posted a .355 batting average, while putting together a .535 on base percentage.
• BLAKE MARLOW, Pitcher, Winona Christian, Jr.; He as 3-2 on the mound with a 3.25 ERA, 31 strikeouts and just eight walks. He also hit .346 with two homers and 16 RBIS.
• NICK MURPHY, Outfield, Winona High School, Jr.: It was a strong glove in the outfield that landed Murphy who hit .200 on the year, Murphy a spot on the team.
• LOGAN NEAL, Outfield, Carroll Academy, Sr.: The senior outfielder only made one error on the year while hitting .350.
• JAMES PRIDGEN, First Base, J.Z. George, Jr.: Pridgen was one of three Jags to hit .355 or betters on the season. He had a .359 batting overage to go with a .536 on base percentage.
• MITCH STEWART, First Base, Winona High School, So. It was a .386 batting average powered by 16 doubles that helped Stewart earn his spot on the team. He also drove in 14 runs for the Tigers, while scoring a dozen.
• GAVIN WILTSHIRE, Catcher, Carroll Academy, Jr.: He hit .315 while blasting two homers and driving in 18 runs. He also had three doubles.
