Carroll County Fire Coordinator Andy Vining was airlifted to Jackson Tuesday morning following a two-car motor vehicle accident on Highway 35 four miles north of Vaiden.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, Vining, who was driving his county pickup truck northbound on Highway 35, collided with a small SUV traveling southbound on Highway 35.
Walker said the vehicle traveling southbound appeared to have left the roadway onto the shoulder then overcorrected and crossed into the northbound lane. Vining’s truck struck the vehicle on the passenger side.
Carroll County Emergency Management Director Ken Strachan said said first responders were dispatched at 10:55 a.m.
Vining’s passenger, John Keys, and the driver of the SUV, whose name had not been released by presstime Wednesday, were transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood and were later released.
Vining was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was later released, according to Walker.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
