A Missouri man is dead following a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 Wednesday morning.
According to Sgt. Ronald Shive, of the Public Affairs Division of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop D, troopers responded to the accident around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.
John W. Huegel, 48, of Noel, Mo., was headed south bound on Interstate 55 when he lost control of his 2005 International tractor-trailer truck.
Shive said Huegel appeared to have lost control of his truck as he crossed a bridge near the 172.5 mile marker.
“Once contact was made, Huegel’s vehicle rode the guardrail until his vehicle entered the median,” Shive stated. “Afterwards, his vehicle then crossed both north bound lanes before colliding with another concrete guardrail. The vehicle exploded upon impact. Huegel’s vehicle came to final rest on the bridge.”
Huegel was pronounced dead on the scene by Carroll County Coroner Mark Stiles.
The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, crews were still cleaning up the truck’s cargo that scattered along the side of Interstate 55 on Wednesday afternoon.
