The annual Cruisin’ Cotesworth classic car show will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center in Carroll County.
The event is organized by the Cotesworth board of directors as a fundraiser. Cotesworth is the ancestral home of Senator J.Z. George, the primary author of Mississippi’s Constitution.
According to Kenny Downs, president of the Cotesworth Board of Directors and organizer of the event, guests can expect to see classic and collectable cars dating back as early as 1912, with Miss Lizzie’s Detroit Electric on display again this year.
“There will be 20-plus classic and collectable cars coming from the Jackson Car Club,” Downs said. “There is a lot of locals interested in bringing cars to the event.”
Downs said Jay Williams, a George descendent, will be bringing several cars from his personal collection, and Downs will be bringing three of his collectable vehicles.
“I’m bringing a 1964 Kaiser Jeep pickup I’ve been restoring,” Downs said.
On Friday, guests can view cars on display as well as visit the Merrill Museum, which will be open, and sightsee with three guided road tours through Carroll County – a loop around the John Hurt Museum in the Valley Community, Avalon, and Teoc; the old stage route also known as Carrollton-Grenada Road through the Little Texas and Hickory Grove communities; and a tour of the Last Great Chief Highway which is McCarley Road to Highway 82 and back to Carrollton.
On Saturday, in addition to the cars on display, guests will enjoy the music of Carroll County’s own, Honey Please Band. Caleb Cox, owner of By the Bridge Bistro in Greenwood, will have his food truck on site, selling a variety of fares, and a silent auction is planned.
Downs said another treat is a demonstration by Chris Branch, a teacher at Winona Career and Technical Center, and his students on a current working project of the group.
“The weather will be beautiful,” said Downs, encouraging everyone to come enjoy the event.
