The Carroll County race for Chancery Clerk will continue to a run-off on August 27, with Casey Carpenter taking on Christy Noah.
In Tuesday’s Democratic Primary Election, Carpenter led the three-way race with 1,402 votes. Noah came in second with 1,308 votes, and Monica Jones followed with 1,023 votes.
All numbers are uncertified, as the Carroll County Election Commission was still counting affidavit ballots at press time on Wednesday, however, the results of the final ballots will not affect the run-off candidates for chancery clerk. Visit www.carrollconservative for updates on the vote count.
The winner of the run-off election will face independent candidates Danette Corder Roland and Jenifer Jones Houston in November’s General Election.
Also heading into a run-off are Rob Banks and Roshaun Daniels, who are both seeking the Southern District Constable seat. Banks led the Democratic Primary with 687 votes, followed by Daniels with 528 votes. Travis Gatewood took third place with 461 votes, and Andy Langham had 47 votes.
Two incumbents were unseated in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary election. Southern District Justice Court Judge Dorothy Branch was defeated by challenger Tinesha Erve-Earnest. Branch had 727 votes to Erve-Earnests 950 votes. Erve-Earnest faces no opposition in November’s General Election.
Beat 2 Supervisor Terry Brown was also unseated in Tuesday’s election by Democratic challenger Josh Hurst. Hurst received 436 votes to Brown’s 336 votes.
Hurst will face independent challenger Jesse Salter in November’s General Election.
In the Carroll County Sheriff’s race, incumbent Sheriff Clint Walker, with 2,514 votes, defeated challenger David Mims, with 1,275 votes.
Incumbent Circuit Clerk Durward Stanton defeated challenger Chuck Elliott with 72.9 percent of the vote. Stanton received 2,648 votes to Elliott’s 1,013 votes.
In the Carroll County Tax Assessor/Collector race, incumbent Wilton Neal defeated challenger Melinda Sanders Alderman with 56.8 percent of the vote. Neal received 2,105 votes to Alderman’s 1,598 votes. Neal will face independent challenger Donna Gregg Harper in November’s General Election.
In a repeat from 2015, incumbent Beat 1 Supervisor Jim Neill defeated challenger Scott Montgomery with 55.2 percent of the vote. Neill received 468 votes to Montgomery’s 377 votes.
In the Beat 5 Supervisor race, incumbent Rickie Corley defeated both Andy McCorkle and Walter Mitchell in Tuesday’s election with more than 50 percent of the vote. There will be no run-off in this race. Corley received 582 votes to McCorkle’s 48 votes and Mitchell’s 149 votes.
In the Northern District Justice Court Judge race, incumbent Jimmy Avant defeated challenger Therrell Turner, 1,411 votes to 551 votes.
Incumbent Joe Holman defeated challenger Dustin Haddon in the Northern District Constable Race. Holman received 1,116 votes to Haddon’s 894 votes.
