The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department discovered a dead body inside an abandoned well near Duck Hill Wednesday afternoon.
According to Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix, his department was assisting the Grenada County Sheriff’s Department in an investigation of a supposed fatal shooting which occurred Sunday night in Grenada County. Nix said three suspects are in custody in connection with the shooting, but the victim had not been located.
Nix said he did not have details on the Grenada County shooting case, and calls to Grenada authorities were not immediately returned by press time Wednesday.
“[Grenada County Sheriff’s deputies] felt the body would be in Duck Hill,” Nix said.
Nix said deputies have been searching creeks and bridges and other areas around the northern part of Montgomery County, but a tip led them to the vicinity of an a vacant trailer, located at 366 Highway 404 West, with a well located on the property. Nix said the body was discovered at the bottom of the well around 1:30 p.m.
According to Nix, they used the county’s pump to remove the water from the well, and an excavator was brought to the scene to retrieve the body.
Montgomery County Coroner Alan Pratt transported the body to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy and identification.
Story developing.
