Saturday, June 1, the community is asked to come out to help raise money for Aden Green, the 13- year-old Montgomery County teen who was attacked by six dogs while riding his bike on Sawyer Road on March 15.
Angie Starnes, Becky Ables, Eddie Britt and Janice Palmertree have come together to plan a fun day in honor of Green. Proceeds from the event, which will be held at the Montgomery County Coliseum from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., will go toward Green’s medical bills and helping Aden’s family.
Ables said that Green is doing well.
“He’s doing really well. He has a long way to go. He has to learn how to re-walk and will have to undergo physical therapy at Methodist Rehabilitation. He’s blessed,” she said.
The fundraiser will include bounce houses, vendors, food, games, face painting, hot air balloon rides, Carla’s Critters and Pony Rides, the Crossroad Cruisers, a cake and toy walk, gospel singing, the U.S. Corp of Engineers, and even an educational moment where the community will be taught animal safety.
Britt said planning was hard at first.
“Every door was shut on us,” he said. But, he said the Montgomery County Coliseum opened up for them and things began falling into place.
There will be a live and silent auction, armbands, arts and crafts vendors, petting zoo, pony rides and more.
“I want this to be the biggest blowout,” Britt said.
Ables said it’s free for a vendor to set-up, and they’re only asking for vendors to give a donation of their sales.
“It’s whatever is put on their heart to give. If they make $2,000, we hope they would donate half of that.”
Britt said there is no admission and no fee for parking.
“I’ve had people ask me about parking because they’ve charged for parking at other benefits but it’s free.”
Adding the only fee will be for the armbands for all day play which are $15, fee to ride the hot air balloon and pony ride.
There will also be a raffle for a 20-gauge shotgun donated by Chase Thrasher of Guntown. Ables said they will have a booth at the Doodlebug Festival Dixie Iron Tractor Pull on Saturday, May 11 in Holcomb. She said they’ll have raffle tickets and will be taking donations.
Britt and Ables said they are still looking for vendors, auction items and cakes and toys for the cake walk and toy walk.
“Nothing is too big or too small,” Britt said.
