A family dispute leads to serious injuries and four arrests, Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker said.
James Taylor Evans, 18, of Holcomb Jacob Gabe Montgomery, 21, of Duck Hill, and Corey Allen Gilmore, 28, of Winona are facing felony charges for burglary of a dwelling and aggravated assault in connection with an incident in the early morning hours on November 24.
Walker said a 17-year-old juvenile is also facing the same charges in relation to the incident.
At 12:40 a.m. on November 24, deputies responded to a disturbance call on County Road 265 near Vaiden. Walker said deputies arrested Gerald Montgomery, 41, of Winona and charged him with simple assault, a misdemeanor charge.
“There was a physical altercation between him and a family member,” Walker said.
Around an hour later, at 1:42 a.m., deputies received a second call to the residence. As they were responding, Walker said a deputy noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed through Vaiden and pulled the vehicle over. Walker said one of the four occupants in the car, a 17-year-old juvenile, had suffered a stab wound to his hand, and the knife was still inside the wound.
“The deputy had been a paramedic, so he helped treat the hand,” Walker said. “The car continued on to Greenwood Leflore [Hospital].”
Walker said when deputies arrived at the residence on County Road 265, they discovered Todd Branch “severely beaten.”
Walker said the woman living at the residence told deputies that four men broke into her home and beat Todd Branch, 27, also a resident of the home.
“[She] advised that she tried to putt the boys off him,” Walker said.
Walker said the four men in the vehicle were identified as subjects during the course of the investigation.
“During the course of the struggle, a juvenile was stabbed,” Walker said.
Walker said the knife used appeared to be a kitchen knife, and the wounds were not life-threatening. He was treated and released from Greenwood Leflore hospital.
Walker said Branch had suffered severe head injuries and was transported to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Walker said bond was set at $5,000 for Evans, Montgomery, and Gilmore, and they were transported to Carroll Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility.
