The Carroll Academy baseball team got in two games last week, hosting Benton Academy in a doubleheader.
The Rebels took both games, beating Benton 11-1 and 7-3 to sweep the doubleheader.
Carroll improved to 5-5 on the year and is off for spring break and will return to play as they begin district play with a three-game series with Oak Hill. The first two games of the series are Tuesday at Oak Hill while Game 3 will be Thursday at Carroll.
Carroll 11, Benton 1
The Rebels banged out 16 hits and took advantage of eight walks as they rolled to a six-inning, run-rule win over the Raiders in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Carroll scored five runs in the second inning and then followed with two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Benton scored one running the sixth.
Carroll outhit Benton 16-3 in the contest. Landon Grantham was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Tyler Brooks was 3-for-5 and scored a run. Hayes White was 2-for-3 with a double while Ethan Mims was 2-for-2 with two walks. Austin Mims was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Reed Thomas walked three times and scored two runs. Reid Blaylock and C.J. McDonald both singled and drove in two runs while Jake Truitt singled, scored two runs and had two RBIs.
White started on the mound and pitched all six innings for Carroll, giving up one run on three hits and four walks while striking out five.
Carroll 7, Benton 3
The Rebels built an early lead and allowed just one hit to take a four-run win over the Raiders in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Each team scored a single run in the second inning while Carroll scored four in the third to go up 5-1. Carroll added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning while Benton added two runs in the top of the seventh.
Hayes White was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs while Ethan Mims was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Reed Thomas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while C.J. McDonald was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Ethan Mims started on the mound and pitched 6 2/3 innings to get the win, giving up three runs on one hit and five walks while striking out eight. Austin Mims got the last out for the Rebels.
