Carroll Academy Board of Directors President Ryan Jackson addressed rumors about the recent dismissal of Headmaster Barry Finnie in a letter to parents.
“First, I would like to thank you for the outpouring of support for our school during a time of uncertainty. The generous extension of encouragement and trust is a testament to the spirit of our patrons,” Jackson said in the letter.
“Secondly, I want to take this opportunity to address the numerous rumors surrounding the departure of Mr. Finnie. I can assure you that there is no truthful basis to any of the senseless claims,” he said, but did not mention any specific claims.
Finnie was announced to have been dismissed in a report from a non-local publication on April 5. There were numerous attempts at reaching out to board members regarding Finnie. They were unavailable for comment. Finnie was also contacted. He did not comment. “The decision to seek new direction from a leadership role was purely professional in nature. We wish Mr. Finnie the best in his new endeavors.”
“Lastly, I am pleased to announce that Johnny Daves will be joining Carroll Academy as Headmaster in the fall. He has been a school administrator for 13 years and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school. Johnny has received degrees from Delta State University, University of Mississippi and Arkansas State University. He obtained his Ph.D. from Mississippi State University in 2020. He is currently a resident of Carroll County and is looking forward to the opportunity to serve our school. Please join me in wishing Johnny every success in his new role,” said Jackson.
