Billy J. Reed passed away early Sunday morning, August 31, 2025, at his home in North Carrollton. He was born on February 5, 1940 in Greenwood, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Belton Reed. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Angeline Reed.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Reed (Ann); his daughters, Theresa Reed (Matthew) and Anita Williams (Jay); his grandchildren, Jayme Williams (Megan), Reed Williams (Lakin), and Ruby Ostrow; and his great-granddaughter, Isla Williams.
Billy proudly served his country as a military policeman in the United States Air Force. For more than 50 years after completing his service, he remained in Anchorage, Alaska, a community and natural landscape that he loved deeply. When Angie became ill in 2018, he returned to Mississippi with her so that they could be closer to family.
Billy was fiercely protective of his family and friends and had a zest for adventure – for travel and music and a night on the town with his dear wife. He loved to talk and to tell (and retell) humorous stories drawn from his varied experiences.
A private funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Rev. Calvin Judson Meaders, Jr. officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Terry and Vicki Cox, Lucille Kirkwood, Jamey Lott, and his nephews and nieces. Military rites were conducted by Keesler-Hamrick-Gillespie American Legion Post 29.
Memorials can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, Tunnel to Towers, or Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
