It was a long-awaited Heavenly homecoming when Mrs. Taylor, surrounded by her loving family, closed her eyes at her home in Carrollton and opened her eyes in her Heavenly home in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 3, 2025. Mrs. Taylor was born in Grenada on October 14, 1942, to Waymon Courtney and Laverne Jones DuBard and grew up in McCarley. She was a member of the McCarley Baptist Church, where she gave her heart to Christ at a very young age, was the pianist for both the McCarley Baptist Church and the McCarley Methodist Church for some ten years, and was active in the community youth activities in McCarley.
Mrs. Taylor was a 1960 graduate of J. Z. George High School in North Carrollton, received her undergraduate degree in Business Education from Mississippi College, and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Delta State, with advanced studies at Mississippi State University.
On August 9, 1964, Beverly Ann DuBard and Bernard Milton Taylor, Jr. were married in the McCarley Baptist Church, where they began their sixty-one years of marriage. Upon this union Beverly joined the Carrollton Baptist Church with her husband Bernard and became the church pianist, the position where she faithfully used her musical talent and spiritual gifts in the Lord’s service for fifty-nine years. In addition to her musical service to the church, Mrs. Taylor was also an active member of the Carrollton Baptist Women’s Missionary Union for fifty-nine years, taught Sunday School classes, and assisted with Bible School. Mrs. Taylor was recently honored with a Resolution from Carrollton Baptist Church recognizing her for her years of dedicated and abiding loyalty to the music department, to the members of the Carrollton Baptist Church, as well as for her love and service to the mission organizations of the church.
Mrs. Taylor’s love for children was reflected through her years of teaching school. She began her teaching career at J. Z. George School in North Carrollton, where for four years she taught junior high English and history and served as school counselor. She continued her teaching career at Carroll Academy for ten years where she taught typing, accounting, and shorthand, served as the school counselor, and was selected Mississippi Economic Council STAR teacher several times. Her last sixteen years of teaching was at Winona High School where she taught accounting, basic vocational education, and served as director of guidance for the junior high school. During her tenure at Winona, she served on the Mississippi Vocational Education State Committee to rewrite the state curriculum for Basic Vocational Education. While serving in the educational field, Mrs. Taylor was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a charter member of the Epsilon chapter for Carroll, Montgomery, and Grenada counties.
