School board make up bill passes House

Tuesday, the Mississippi House of Representatives voted 117 to zero to make the school board of the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District fully elected from the county’s current supervisor districts. Senate Bill 2502 was already passed by the senate, and it now awaits the signature of Governor Tate Reeves.

City’s mask order remains in effect

WINONA – The Winona Board of Aldermen did not take action Tuesday night to lift the city’s current face mask order. The board passed the order on April 27 at the urging of local physicians and healthcare providers to curb the spread of COVID-19.
“I’m going to volunteer to wear one for a long time,” Alderman Mickey Austin said.

Gary Jackson resigns from state senate

Senator Gary Jackson (R-French Camp) will resign at the end of June due to health reasons.
The longtime senator, whose District 15 includes parts of Choctaw, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, and Webster counties, announced his intention to resign Tuesday before his colleagues in the Senate.
