Winona will remain an MHSAA Class 3A school for the next two years, but J.Z. George will drop from 3A to 2A. The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced classifications for the association's 245 schools last week for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years.
KOSCIUSKO – Winona has beaten 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A schools this year after the Tigers finished the regular season 11-0 with a 53-13 victory over 4A Kosciusko. The Tigers have a home game Friday with Tylertown in the opening round of the MHSAA 3A playoffs.
The Winona Tigers are the outright champions of Region 5-3A in the school's first year as a 3A team. Winona is 10-0 — one of eight unbeaten MHSAA teams — and 5-0 in the region. As 5-3A champion, the Tigers will host the fourth place team from 8-3A in the opening round of the playoffs Nov, 2.
The Lodi-Minerva Road Volunteer Fire Department Board is working toward a grant to help with the building of a new volunteer fire department. The group, led by concerned citizens, wants to create a fire station in the Lodi-Minerva area of eastern Montgomery County because there isn’t one in the area or nearby.
