The Carroll Academy offense had less than 300 yards of offense against Lee Academy on Friday night.
But that’s because the Carroll defense kept giving the offense a short field as the Rebels ran out to a 39-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 39-12 win over visiting Lee (Ark.) Academy.
Winona Christian football coach Junior Graham made a few changes on offense last week, and they paid big dividends on Friday night.
Sophomore Dalton Wiggins had a monster night as he rushed for 133 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Stars beat Ethel 39-14 for their first win of the season.
The Winona slow-pitch softball team stretched its winning streak to five games with victories over Cleveland Central 7-2, Vicksburg 11-2 and Riverside 11-1. In those five games, the Lady Tigers scored 52 runs on 65 hits.
“The top of our batting order is doing pretty good,” said Coach Steven Helms.
In a tight district game, it was Winona Christian that came away with a one-run win over rival Carroll Academy on Tuesday.
Winona Christian was scheduled to play at Marshall on Monday in their only action of the week. They will return to action after Labor Day and host Marshall on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
