A teacher has one of the hardest jobs in one of the hardest fields.

Madeline Branch, 16, a sophomore at Winona High School, said she took a risk and applied to the Mississippi School of Math and Science in Columbus.

First Baptist Church of Winona will present an encore presentation of “Bow the Knee” tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

Christopher Golden, 42, was found guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Vaiden leaders attend conference

BILOXI – The Vaiden mayor and members of the Board of Aldermen attended the 86th annual Mississippi Municipal League conference in Biloxi last week to learn how they can better serve Vaiden.

Mayor Melvin Hawthorne and Aldermen Theodore Purnell, Curtis Meeks, Doris Fluker and Lesia Hemphill attended the conference.


Community mourning loss of teen

NORTH CARROLLTON – Students, faculty and staff at J.Z. George will return to classes in mourning of Elisabeth Guerra, who lost her life last week.

Guerra, a 16-year-old junior, died of respiratory failure at her home in North Carrollton on July 26, according to her obituary provided by Oliver Funeral Home.

The Miracle Worker will be performed August 4 through 6 at 7 p.m. at the Montgomery County Performing Arts Center in downtown Winona. Tickets are available in advance or at the door.
