Halloween activities around the areaBy LAKEADRA COFFEY,
Modern Woodman of America is sponsoring the annual scarecrow decorating contest, and judging will be October 25.
Many area businesses and organizations have already planning their scarecrows or already have them on display.
Matt Bennett with Modern Woodman of America said he’s seen several businesses, residents and organizations have their scarecrows on display, and they look great.
“It’s great to see all of the hard work. It’s makes Winona look festive,” Bennett said. “It looks like the fall season around here.”
There are be three divisions in the contest – residential, business, and organization. Judging will be on Friday, October 25, but participants are encouraged to build their scarecrow earlier so citizens can enjoy the fall decorations.
This year’s judges will be two young residents of Carroll and Montgomery Counties, but they’ll need a little help getting around because they can’t drive yet.
“The judges will be Dean Ferguson and Lillie Claire Bennett,” Bennett said.
Ferguson, 6, and Bennett, 4, will decide which scarecrow they like the best. There will be a first, second, and third place winners for each category.
“The winners will get their picture in the newspaper with me and the first place winner will receive a trophy,” Bennett said.
