Chassaniol to be honored by Rotary

Senator Lydia Chassaniol (R-Winona) will be recognized as the Women In Rotary Pat Fordice Community and Humanitarian Service Award recipient for service and positive promotion of Mississippi its art, culture and people mainly through her work as Chairman of the Senate Tourism Committee.

The award will be given March 8, 2019, 11:30 a.m., at the Country Club of Jackson, 345 St. Andrews Drive in Jackson.

"Pat Fordice was one of the loveliest ladies I have ever known. To be mentioned in the same sentence with her is an honor. To be given an award named for her is just incredible!” Chassaniol said. “I think the work of Rotary is some of the best I've been able to do. Service above self is more than a slogan. It’s a way of life.”

Chassaniol has served in the Senate since 2007.

“Women in Rotary” is Rotary District 6820’s annual event celebrating women’s leadership, community service and commitment to personal and professional integrity. 

Chassaniol is a member of the Rotary Club of Winona, one of the 45 local clubs in Rotary District 6820’s across 34 counties in Central MS. 

Women in Rotary Committee Chair Barbara Travis said, “Rotary District 6820 is extremely pleased to honor Senator Chassaniol as the 2019 Pat Fordice Award recipient. She, like our beloved former First Lady, is committed to improving, promoting and showcasing our wonderful state. We very much look forward to presenting her award along with a special “Champion of Change” tribute to two other remarkable female Rotarians.”

Others to be honored are Mississippi University for Women President Nora Miller of the Rotary Club of Columbus and Constance Harvey-Slaughter of the Rotary Club of Forest.
