Two people are dead and another injured in an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning on Montgomery Street in Winona.
Captain Dan Herod, Chief Investigator for the Winona Police Department, said officers were dispatched to a domestic situation at 504 Montgomery Street at 1:37 a.m.
While they were en route to the scene, dispatchers advised the officers that someone at the scene who threatening to shoot another. As officers were getting close, they heard multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located a female lying in the yard who had sustained two gunshot wounds.
Another female was found in the front passenger seat of an SUV in the driveway of the residence. She had been shot four to five times, according to Herod.
A male subject, Charles McCrary, 31, of Carroll County was found in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the head. McCrary and the female found in the car died on the scene. The other female victim was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Herod did not know her condition.
The victim was able to give officers a preliminary statement before being transported. Herod said the investigation shows the female victim found in the vehicle was shot first, through a vehicle window, and the second female tried to run back toward the house, she was shot. McCrary then turned the gun, a 9mm handgun on himself, Herod stated.
Herod declined to give the names of the two females. He did confirm there were two children at the residence at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.
The deceased female was the occupant of the house, and the other female was a friend. Herod did not know if McCrary lived at the home.
Montgomery County Coroner Alan Pratt said the bodies of McCrary and the unidentified female, were taken to the crime lab in Pearl for an autopsy.
