Winona attorney Ryan Taylor is working to become the next Montgomery County Prosecutor. Taylor will be vying for the seat in the August 6 Democratic Primary.
Taylor, 32, of Winona is a partner in the Lancaster/Taylor Law Firm. He serves as official counsel for Montgomery County, the Town of Carrollton and the Town of North Carrollton. “A great deal of my practice is devoted to serving the public,” Taylor said. “I feel like I can serve the community at a greater capacity as county prosecutor.”
A native of Greenwood, Taylor is a 2005 graduate of Pillow Academy, a 2007 graduate of Mississippi Delta Community College, and a 2009 graduate of Delta State University. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Mississippi College School of Law in 2012.
After law school, Taylor settled in Winona with his wife, Maggie Taylor, a nurse practitioner at Crossroads Family Medicine, and the couple extended their family with the birth of their son, Sadler, in 2017. They are members of First Baptist Church of Winona.
“Winona is home to us,” Taylor said. “We have enjoyed becoming active in this community, both professionally and personally. Montgomery County is a great place to live, work and raise a family. As a father, husband and member of the community, I plan to do my part to keep it that way.”
Taylor began his legal career in Winona working with attorney George Weaver before joining attorney Devo Lancaster and forming Lancaster/Taylor, PLLC. His legal experience includes general litigation matters involving civil matters, family law, criminal defense, as well as municipal and governmental law.
“I don’t believe in cookie-cutter justice. I plan to deal with every case on its own merits. I plan to apply the facts of the case to the law, and treat everyone equally and with the utmost respect. That is justice. That being said, I will give no quarter to those who commit crimes in Montgomery County.”
Taylor has experience defending criminal clients and youth court clients, giving him a unique perspective as to the role of a prosecutor. “One of the duties of the county prosecutor is to prosecute cases in youth court. As prosecutor in youth court, it is my goal to give the children the opportunity to appreciate that there are consequences for breaking the law, while at the same time not ruining their future.”
Taylor is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and a member of Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar Association, where he served a two-year term as a director for the East Central District. He was a nominee for the Mississippi Bar Commissioners, and he has been voted Best of the Crossroads Best Attorney in 2016 and 2017 by the community.
In his campaign for county prosecutor, Taylor hopes to speak with many citizens of Montgomery County and address questions and concerns. He can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 662-283-2132.
“I am asking for your support in the upcoming August Primary Election,” Taylor said. “It would be my honor to represent the citizens of Montgomery County as your prosecutor. I will work hard to earn your respect, confidence and vote.”
