Angeline (“Angie”) Mary Rogers Reed, age 78, died on Thursday, Sept. 20th at 3:46 p.m. at her home in North Carrollton. She was surrounded by her husband of 58 years, Billy, her two daughters, Theresa and Anita, her close friend, Lucille, and the beautiful Hospice personnel, Kristi and Geri, who together with Tasha, were invaluable in the last year of Angie’s life.
Mrs. Reed’s memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22nd in Carrollton at the Grace Episcopal Church and Rev. Jud Meaders officiated. Burial service followed at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.
She was born on Jan. 26, 1940 in Minot, North Dakota to Dorothy and Raymond Rogers. She attended St. Leo’s Catholic School in Minot and graduated at the top of her class with a scholarship for college in hand. However, her father was ill at the time and the doctor suggested that she stay home until her father was better. By the time Angie’s father was well, she was working at a coffee shop where she met and fell in love with Billy Reed, who was stationed at Minot Air Force Base.
Mrs. Reed and Billy were married on Aug. 6, 1960 in Minot. They remained in Minot while Billy was oversees and after their first daughter, Theresa, was born. After returning from Taiwan, Billy and Angie were transferred to San Angelo, Texas, where their second daughter, Anita, was born. From there, in 1963 the family was transferred to Anchorage, Alaska where, other than a four year hiatus in Northern California, they remained until the summer of 2017. At that point, Angie and Billy moved to North Carrollton where Anita and Jay, Anita’s husband, helped care for Angie for the last year of her life.
She will be long-remembered and held close for her self-less and infinite heart, her dancing marine-blue eyes, and a smile that could warm the coldest heart. She loved wholly, strongly, and with great loyalty. She was loved in return by many, top of the list being her beloved husband, her two daughters, her two son-in-laws, Jay Williams and Matthew Ostrow, and her three grandchildren, Jayme Williams, Reed Williams, and Ruby Ostrow.
Mrs. Reed worked throughout her life as a dental assistant and, later, a dental office manager. She was highly intelligent and interested in all aspects of life, which fed her quiet focus when listening to people share their stories. She read voraciously, loved to garden, to travel, to dance, and listen to music. Angie was a gentle soul with a quiet voice and a melodious laugh, but most notably, she was strong. She will be missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Rogers, and a brother, David Rogers.
Mrs. Reed. is survived by her husband, Billy Reed, her two daughters, Theresa Reed (Matthew Ostrow) and Anita Williams (Jay), her three grandchildren, Jayme Williams (Megan), Reed Williams (fiancée, Lakin Battaglia), and Ruby Ostrow, two sisters, Diana O’Connor and Caroline Rogers, one brother, Joseph Rogers, a sister-in-law, Mary Rogers, an aunt, Vera Pfau, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Reed family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the home care staff from Halcyon Hospice, Tasha, Kristi, and Geri, for their patience and kind-hearted care, and to Lucille Kirkwood, who was a loving and gentle friend to both Billy and Angie throughout their time in Mississippi. Memorials in Angie’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Anchorage, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, or Halcyon Hospice. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
