As many prepared to ring in the New Year Monday, they first had to brave a severe thunderstorm that bought with it tornado warnings, watches, power outages and downed trees. Thankfully, Montgomery and Carroll counties were unscathed for the most part from the storm, which came through around lunch time Monday and died down around 2 p.m.
Melissa Green has joined the Workforce Training staff at North Central Planning and Development. Green is a 2005 graduate of Winona High School and graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in Legal Studies.

After 36 years, last Thursday night marked the last board meeting for Beat 4 school board member Laura Norwood Davis, and after serving on the board since 2013, it marked the last meeting for Beat 3 member Daniel Vest.
A federal judge has ruled that the new Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District must go under the previous desegregation order from the former Montgomery County School District.
