As summer gets into full swing, most kids are spending their days having fun doing nothing, but for those participating in the Summer Feeding Program, sponsored by Blessings for All Empowered by Faith, learned a valuable lesson – not everyone is as fortunate as they are.
Plans may be in the works to turn the former Montgomery County Elementary School into a possible drug and rehabilitation center, but that’s all contingent on the decision of the Winona-Montgomery County Consolidated School District board.
Every two years, North Central Planning and Development District’s Agency on Aging holds an Over 60 Celebration, catering to senior citizens in Carroll, Attala, Grenada, Leflore, Holmes, and Yalobusha – the seven counties that North Central cover.
Two Carroll County students received scholarships on behalf of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and the Mississippi Association of Supervisors. Jeb Beck of Carroll Academy and Makenzie Weeks of Winona High School were the recipients of two $500 scholarships from the board.
The Town of Vaiden is making their adult entertainment ordinance stricter in the event another venue is located in the town. Aldermen voted to increase the fees and fines on the adult entertainment ordinance and move the location of the clubs to an area in Vaiden’s Industrial Park.
Several J.Z. George students have the opportunity to compete on the national level of the SkillsUSA competition, which will take place June 24 through the 29 in Louisville, Ky. Alex Zuniga, Patrick Roy and Gustavo Flores will compete against other teams through the 50 states during the competition.
