For some parents, buying everything their child needs for the first day of school can be stressful. Once parents begin buying school supplies, uniforms and making sure their child look their best, the cost can add up. However, local community leaders are throwing an event to help ease that stress.

The Town of Kilmichael is narrowing down its search for a new deputy city clerk to help current clerk Pauline Hall.
The position was left vacant after former assistant clerk Claudette McClain resigned in May. Hall said the position was advertised twice after the board approved it in a May 14 special call meeting.

Children at the Winona-Montgomery Public Library were treated to a show by Chester Drawers Monday, as part of the library’s summer learning program. Chester, whose real name is Eddie Bowman of Branson, Mo., taught the children through songs and stories the importance of reading, listening and being good citizens.
