The community is mourning the loss of longtime county leader Harvey Overstreet of the Hebron Community, who passed away last week at the age of 90. Funeral services were held Saturday at Hebron Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
CARROLLTON – The Carroll Academy community is mourning the loss of one of its own after the tragic passing of Abigail Louise O’Cain, 12, a sixth grade student at the school.
“She was beautiful inside and out,” said O’Cain’s teacher Brenda Pernell. “I never heard her say a bad or unkind thing about anybody.”
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors are working toward passing its own dangerous animal ordinance after a 12-year-old boy was mauled by a pack of six dogs while riding his bicycle down Sawyer Road on March 15. The child, Aiden Green, remains in intensive care at a Jackson Hospital recovering from his injuries.
JACKSON – The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld the trial judge’s stay in post-conviction appeal proceedings for Curtis Flowers until the United States Supreme Court makes its ruling on whether racial bias was used in the selection of the jury that convicted Flowers in 2010 for the murders of four people in 1996.

A Kilmichael home was damaged by fire Sunday night.
According to Kilmichael Fire Chief Dave Eldridge, his father, Kilmichael Chief of Police David Eldridge arrived at his home on Ridge Road around 10:20 p.m., and as he exited his vehicle, he heard a noise coming from the house across the street.
