After its first year as one school district, the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District received a D accountability rating from the Mississippi Department of Education. The rating is based scores from state tests taken last spring for the 2018-2019 school year.
WINONA – The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors adopted a new budget for fiscal year 2020 following a public hearing on the matter Tuesday morning. No one appeared at the meeting in favor of or opposition to the proposed budget.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department has charged a Vardaman teen in connection with a string of burglaries in Carrollton and North Carrollton recently.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, John Hyde, 18, of Vardaman has been arrested and charged with four counts of commercial burglary and one count of auto burglary.

WINONA – The Winona Board of Aldermen adopted the proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year, which includes a 2.2 mil increase to combat the growing cost to do business and the anticipated loss in sales tax due to the closure of Fred’s Super Dollar.
Casey Carpenter will move on to November’s General Election in his race for the Carroll County Chancery Clerk seat, as he defeated challenger Christy Noah in Tuesday’s runoff election.
Carpenter, 38, received 1,716 votes to Noah’s 1,064 votes.
