Gerald "Jerry" Boyd Phelon of Grenada, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014. He passed away peacefully while visiting at his daughter's home in Collins.

Jerry was born October 14, 1933 in Hayti, Mo. to Jess and Jettie Gettings Phelon. Upon graduating from Hayti High School he entered the United States Army. After serving in Korea he returned to Memphis, Tennessee, married Ruzene Moore and began their family. They resided for 13 years in Dumas, Arkansas where he managed a Sterling Store. In 1973 the family made their home in Grenada where he owned several businesses until his retirement. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed horses, border collies, gospel and bluegrass music, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Ruzene Moore Phelon, his son Terry Phelon and wife Shonda Ricks Phelon of Grenada; his daughter Felecia Steele and husband Ray Steele of Collins; grandchildren Will Giger and wife Heather, Kirk Giger and wife Nicole, Zac Giger and wife Brandy, Brad Phelon, Justin Phelon, Shelby Phelon, and Peyton Phelon; great grandchildren Macy Giger, Keegan Giger, Easton Giger, Cooper Giger, Addison Giger, Bryce Giger, Hannah Williamson, C.C. Williamson, Cullen Phelon, and Tucker Phelon; twin sister Joyce Land and sister Anna Beth Dawson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Christopher Boyd Phelon; brothers Hoyt Moore and Blair Moore; and sisters Virginia Hampton and Judith Burns.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Brent Barker and Reverend Eugene Heimbach officiating. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada with military honors. Pallbearers were Brad Phelon, Justin Phelon, Will Giger, Kirk Giger and Zac Giger. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of the Hope Sunday School Class at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
