The defense returning starters for the Bulldogs include Drew Dennis, MRA; Patrick Williams, Madison Central; Leonard Granderson, Canton; Justin Floyd, Calhoun City; Tanner Roberson, East Webster; and Randy Smith, Velma Jackson while the offensive starters include W.J. McAllister, Warner Robbins, GA; Harry Peoples, Winona; Jonathan Smith, North Forest; Cody Saxton, Canton Academy; and J.J. Thurman, French Camp.
Ball security in 2009 is an issue Bulldog Head Coach Danny Robertson hopes the 2010 Bulldogs have corrected. "I hope we are more consistent and a lot better at taking care of the ball," Robertson said. "That's definitely an area we have to improve. We have to be conscious of ball security."
The Bulldogs have several playmakers on the squad that have shown well during spring and fall drills. "We have some athletes with big-play potential," he said. "They should be exciting to watch and should put points on the board."
Two of the returning starters are running back Harry Peoples of Winona and quarterback W.J. McAllister of Warner Robbins, GA. Robertson also mentioned LaSean Williams of Franklinton, LA and Villanova transfer Larry Jackson of Dade City, FL.
"Harry has potential to be a game changer," Robertson said. "He had flashes last season but stayed injured (shoulder). He has a lot of big-play capabilities."
McAllister also started the first few games of the season last year. "He had a really good spring," Robertson said. "He's strong-armed, smart, coachable and athletic. He's the type guy his teammates will rally around."
Cody Saxton is the lone Bulldog starter along the offensive front. Saxton started at right guard. "Cody's done a good job at stepping up and being a leader," Robertson said. "He's got to be a leader to the younger lineman."
Younger linemen who have been jelling with Saxton include Shawn Pee of Ethel at left tackle, Blake Harthcock of Kosciusko at center and Antwan McCain of Ethel at right tackle.
Bulldog offensive lineman include Jamar Caldwell, Canton; Devin Hopper, Brian Lovelace, Canton; Steven Ratcliff, Canton; William Bradley, Winona; and T.J. Wooten, Morton.
Bulldog receivers hoping to see time are Chris Williams, Yazoo City along with placekicker Allen Moore, Taylorsville and quarterback Kyle Warren, Canton.
The Bulldogs on defense have a lot more team speed, Robertson said. "We have a lot of guys who can cover ground and make up space in a hurry," Robertson said. "The defensive lineman can run and the defensive backs are fast and can change direction."
