WINONA - Two men were bound over to the grand jury Tuesday in Winona City Court for crimes against children.
Shavoy Brandon of Winona is charged with sexual battery, and a preliminary hearing was held at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
Brandon stands accused of sexual battery of a five-year-old girl the evening of April 5, 2010, at his home at 1210 North Union Street in Winona.
According to Winona Police Sergeant Michael Spellman, investigator for the case, he was dispatched to a home on North Union Street. Spellman testified that two female adults called the authorities after the child visited their home, and they were suspicious that something happened to the child earlier that evening.
The child's mother and police took the child for an examination at the Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital emergency room. A sexual assault kit was performed, and it was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Jackson.
Judge Donald Bond set bond at $100,000.
In other court news, the preliminary hearing for Cordell Murry of Winona was waived by defense attorney Lee Bailey.
Murry is charged with molestation for self gratification, and according to Captain Tommy Bibbs, the charges stemmed from events occurring in October 2009.
Murry's bond was set at $5,000.
