WINONA - The Winona Police Department have issued two warrants for those responsible for constructing a methamphetamine lab in East Winona.

According to Winona Chief of Police Johnny Hargrove, his department responded to a citizen's tip of suspicious activity on Old Highway 82 near the construction of a new bridge. When Hargrove and his officers arrived, a methamphetamine lab was found beneath the bridge.

Two men fled the scene on an ATV, and have not yet been apprehended.

"They were cooking a batch when we got there," Hargrove said.

Hargrove said his department called the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics to disassemble the lab safely. No one was hurt during the clean up.

"These things are popping up all over the place," Hargrove said. "People are using pop bottles with tubes."

Two weeks ago, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department arrested a man near Wal-Mart after discovering a methamphetamine lab.

Hargrove said diligence from the community helps them police this problem, and tips often lead to labs. He asked that residents report any suspicious activities or smells near their homes.

"It has got a usual smell," Hargrove said. "But it is harmful to inhale."

At least this $300,0000 bridge to no where is being used for something. This bridge will go down as a monument to govermental stupidity, or possibly corruption. The traffic count on this unnecessary structure will approach 5 cars per week.

The only people involved in this bridge that knew what they were doing were the two dudes underneath it cooking up some illegal drugs.

Do our elected officials lay awake at night thinking of ways to waste the monies they take from us in taxes?
