Thank you from Bank of Kilmichael staff

Dear Editor:

We would like to take a moment and extend a sincere "thank you" to all law enforcement personnel for the apprehension and subsequent arrest of the bank robbery suspect. Chief Hargrove and the Winona Police Department, Sheriff Nix and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Grenada Police Department, the Vaiden Police Department, and possibly others that I am not aware of, were all instrumental in bringing this person in to custody.

We would also like to thank Mayor Flowers, and the numerous customers and friends for their gifts, flowers, calls, and prayers of concern for the ladies affected. We are very proud of our employees' professionalism and are convinced their actions resulted in no physical harm to themselves or our customers.

What is the USA building?

Dear Editor:

It seemed that the 535 “statesmen” that have been elected to represent us to the hallowed halls of Congress are pretty much out of touch with reality. While our friendly enemy, China, is busy building schools, hospitals, highways, and hi-speed railways systems, as well as their military force.

What is the good ol’ USA building? Not much of anything. We do have contractor companies which are supposed to be re-building stuff destroyed by our military forces over in Iraq. But, even with their profitable cost plus contracts, their main job seems to be ripping off the American tax payer.

The tab is in the billions, but Congress being so upset over the Obama Health Plan and the shenanigans of Wall Street corporate crooks, there is no desire to prosecute the thieves of Baghdad. Perhaps the trillions stolen on Wall Street do over-shadow the billions looted in Iraq.

Also, China is buying future energy supplies on the world market along with various commodities needed by their expanding population. And our “statesmen” in Washington are buying that? Well, I don’t know whether we are buying or renting, but it seems that we are acquiring an awful lot of barren afgani mountains. A few poppy fields. So far, this has cost the lives of a few hundred American troops. In Vietnam, our dishonest politicians wasted 58,000 troops. How many lives will we allow this debacle to ruin?

In the media, there is mention of our military leaders trying to buy the loyalty of the Afgani War Lords with dollars. This is like trying to dip water with a sieve.

What have our politicians accomplished on the home front, besides bailing out their wealthy banker friends who have practically bankrupted our financial system? Well, didn’t they increase the price of everything in the grocery store by using our grain crop and ethanol? When they could have imported from Brazil a better grade, and cheaper than ours.

Anyone for term limits?

Bathroom breaks are needed at school

Dear Editor:

How would you feel if you couldn’t use the bathroom when you really needed to? Upset and frustrated?

This is how some of our Winona High School students feel. First, they have no recess. Second, they only have three minutes to get fromone class to another (some of the classes are not close to the next one and if you are late for class then you are considered tardy), and third, when they ask to use the bathroom, the answer is always no.

Well, parents and staff, let me inform you all about something I learned recently from a doctor’s visit with my child. When a person (whether child or adult) is not allowed to go to the bathroom it can lead to several problems -- some major and some minor.

In my child’s case, a urinary tract infection. The doctor stated that not going when needed could cause the problem.

My child told the doctor that the only way you can go to the bathroom was if you have a doctor’s note. The doctor was just as upset as I was.

Why are these people denying children a chance to go to the bathroom? There is enough staff to monitor this. Parents need to come together as a team and voice our concerns of our children.
