This week, organizers for the Winona Christmas parade changed the time of the parade from 2 p.m. until 1 p.m. on December 5 to accommodate the Town of Kilmichael and their parade which is scheduled for 4 p.m. that same day. Kilmichael's parade is followed by the lighting of the town square - an enormously popular event in Montgomery County.
I am thrilled with the cooperation between the municipalities in our community. By working together, those entering floats can participate in both parades and really give this year's holiday season a fine start.
In addition, mayors from Kilmichael, Duck Hill and Carrollton have graciously agreed to serve as Winona's parade judges.
Cooperation is truly the key to building this community bigger and better. By working together, the crossroads community can combine their resources for economic development, funding possibilities, and growth.
Tuesday, a Winona bank was robbed, and although the robber escaped with some cash, no one at the bank was injured during the crime.
At around 10 a.m., just as the bank was being robbed, I was returning to my office. Sirens rang out across town and squad cars from the Winona Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department were racing to the scene to apprehend the robber.
I take for granted those protecting our community from day to day. Until the commotion of the robbery was underway, I went about my daily business without noticing the many law enforcement officers out keeping us safe.
As the investigation continued, more and more officers joined the search. Action was swift and organized, and with that response, hopefully another incident of this sort will be deterred.
It is not often that something like this happens in Winona. In fact, the last time a bank was robbed in Winona was in the mid-1990s. However, if a crime does occur, we have a great team of guys ready with the know-how to handle the situation.
